Within our fashion lesson we have started to look
into various different careers that we could progress into after finishing
this course. Today we were given a task which had to complete within this day,
and that involved researching different types of fashion i.e. commercial, haute
couture, costume and interior. After we were clear on the different types
careers we had to make an sleeve sample that trickled down from haute couture
or costume.
We started the sample by researching different
commercial and high end sleeves, and within this research I personally found
the 18th centaury sleeves more suitable for a high end design because their
designs included large quantity of fabric which was gathered and palette for
artistic finish. For the commercial design I researched into different vintage
clothing because their designs are inspired from clothing and can be sold
cheap.
Once all my research was gathered in mood board I
took inspiration from different designs and included them designs on a fashion
illustration. Using my knowledge from last year I produced two different
pattern cutting samples from the design I found more suitable and interesting.
Within the last step we created those samples from sampling fabric and industrial machines. The commercial design took less time to produce and didn't really have much techniques or details within it. But on the other hand the high end design was really carefully produced with detailed designs and delicate decorations. In my opinion this task gave us a lot of experience in how the two industries work differently and also the amount of effort that's been put to produce the different samples.
